The Scandinavian nation has topped a poll by the United Nations which rates the nordic state the worlds best Islamic country to live.
The UN’s annual Islamic Development Report has also named London the most desirable Muslim city on the planet knocking Paris into second place.
The survey considers factors such as life expectancy, education, gender equality and financial wealth in ranking the best Muslim countries in the world.
This is the first time Sweden has featured on the UN list as it previously did not meet the minimum requirement of Muslims residing in the country to qualify for the report.
Somewhat paradoxically Sweden has fallen fifteen places in the UN’s yearly Human Development Report due to a surprising increase in sexual assaults and anti-Semitic attacks across the country.
London’s number one ranking as the worlds most desirable Muslim city is being seen as a major coup as Paris was expected to hold onto its prestigious crown after finishing in first place in each of its last five years on the list.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has declared the honour as an “extremely proud moment in this great city’s history”. He told journalists that he believed London was a “modern marvel of the Muslim world” and the “blueprint for all cities around the globe”.
